Busting Through Walls - Inspiration

I just read this amazing blog post from Enduramom Erica and had to share it with all of you. True, it's cold and few of us want to leap out of bed to run in weather like this, but...a post like this can't help but light an inspirational fire under your behind. May your healing be speedy this week Erica. Congratulations on pushing through the emotional and physical pain to complete your half marathon this wknd...you are one tough cookie.

Happy October, It's Ironman Time!

Hello!

So, I figure I had better create a current blog post before 2012 rolls around or you assume I've met my maker (insert spooky Halloween howling ghost sound here).  It's October, the US heatwave is OVER, and yes, I've been more into tweeting and tending the Enduramoms Facebook page, than this poor old neglected blog.  I intend to get better about this.  Let's just say, Summer 2011 did not go exactly as planned (car accidents bite!)... more on that later. So back to October... two HUGE things are in the swing this month that we should all take note of and get behind,  as ALL endurance athletes should.

First and foremost, unless you've been living under a rock or are having trouble figuring out why the globe is suddenly draped in pink ... it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   For survivors and/or those of you fighting the Big C as I type this message...I am (and think it's safe to say...we're) behind you 110%. We stand together in the fight.  So, here's my two cents for the general public.  If you've been putting off an exam with your doctor or are just not so thrilled to get a mammogram ... DO IT. If you're reading this, you're probably already an Enduramom, and in that, you can handle an exam if you can haul @ss in mud, rain, or "out kick" Sally Sue in the pool on a weekly basis.  We own discomfort, it doesn't own us.  If you've been on top of things and my reminders don't apply to you,  GOOD - FOR - YOU! Proceed directly to Starbucks and buy yourself  one of those highly addictive (read as: evil addiction...) cakepops to celebrate...after your daily run of course :) ... curse me later.  So anyway, back to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or #BCAM for my tweeps, one can never tell when cancer might rear it's ugly head, it's far better to be on the safe side of early detection than wondering what will I do if..., etc.  If this tiny blog serves to remind just one woman to get checked out and stops the Big C in it's tracks, HOORAY! For official information on cancer, you'll want to start here:  http://www.cancer.gov/. %20n.  Thanks to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, there are many many ways you can get involved EVERY single day this month, just check out the 31 Days of Action Calendar from the Komen Foundation website for ideas.  Is your race calendar empty this month? Put your soul and soles into the fight by participating in one of many walks, runs, swims, or cycling events to raise funds in the fight against cancer.  My family will participate in a Light the Night event this month.  I've known too many people affected by this disease, and well... I'll take any opportunity I can to kick it in the shins... so to speak.  Perhaps you can only donate a bit, but every bit counts in this tough economy, as every charity is fighting to raise funds.  Do your part (but dear sweet NFL, if the players could skip the pink sunblock stuff under the eyes next time... it was just.... weird. Just my honest opinion there) :) hee hee.

I did say there were TWO huge matters this month, right?  Well....matter #2 on the agenda... is this little race on a big island in Hawaii...where the world will be watching!!! Merry Christmas fellow triathletes, it's here, our annual holiday! The 2011 Ford Ironman World Championship is THIS Saturday, October 8th, 2011.  Yes, I get a little giddy in the lead up to this annual event... it's my equivalent of Ralphie dreaming about his Red Rider gun in A Christmas Story. Someday I'll shift from race observer and well wisher, to Kona participant, but for now I am content to watch with glee all of the hard work and determination that the racers will be putting out there for all the world to see from the swim, to the bike, to the run on the Queen K.  Some people work for years just for a shot at this life changing event.
Me, in the form of Ralphie on the night before Kona
If you've ever read back through my posts, I've been watching this event since I was a kid and happened upon a broadcast one Saturday afternoon by chance.  It's nothing short of amazing, it can make one laugh, cry, and cheer, all in one day.  Don't even get me started on the motivation factor.  And then there's the moment when a race participant stops running, to roll over the finish line in memory of the Warrior Poet.  Pure bliss.  Better than any blockbuster Hollywood could ever put out there on the silver screen.  With that being said, some of the most inspiring Enduramoms are already in Kona and you (too) can follow their journey this week and on race day by following their blog and/or tweets.  Oh how I wish I could bring you "live from Kona" tweets, pics, and reports, but... the Enduramoms budget isn't at that level, yet (sponsors welcome!). Someday... someday.  Someday, we'll sponsor a participant in "the big race", dressed in pink + green, with the Enduramoms logo on the front of her tri suit and  "Doing More in 24" on the back... Mark my words!  No pink sunblock below the eyes either... again weird!  In the meantime, we can all live vicariously through the words and images of those who ARE there.

Here are a few Enduramoms to watch this weekend (I'll be adding to this through the week ---if you are racing Kona or know someone racing that we need to list here, shoot me a note ASAP!  We promise to send lots of good vibes and prayers their way.)

Got medals?

Hello Enduramoms!

It's been a few weeks since a quality post has been ... well... um posted here on blogger.com. I've been a bit absent from literal blogging lately, opting instead to do the majority of group updates through the Enduramoms Facebook Fan Page and via our Twitter feed.  In the meantime, a new virtual brag book has been setup up on the Enduramoms Facebook Fan Page.  If you've got medals, trophies, plaques, bowls (yep! it happens), and ribbons to brag about... and I KNOW you do... please upload your pix to our new photo album:  Hardware Boulevard.  It's great fun to see the variety of  medals, trophies, and ribbons being awarded out there.  I'm ESPECIALLY excited to see what is being given out around the world as a race prize!  We've got Enduramoms checking in from over 13 countries (woohoo!) on the Facebook page, so consider this your official call to action.  If you're already on facebook, it's pretty easy to share from an existing album or you can upload right from a folder on your system. Thanks for checking in!

First time here?  This is what we're all about:
Enduramoms, LLC™ is a company created by a triathlete mom - for MOMS who love triathlon and other endurance related sports. Doing more in 24 takes discipline and dedication; at Enduramoms™ we "get it".

In 2011 Enduramoms.com™ will provide a global community for us to share the experience. Enduramoms™ gear will also be available through the site later this year. We are here for ALL moms who love endurance sports like running, triathlon, Ironman racing, marathons, DUs, adventure racing, swimming...etc.

Our Mission
The Enduramoms™ mission is to unify and inspire a global population of moms who participate in endurance sports, promote triathlon participation, and ignite the positive spirit derived from being an endurance athlete. We will accomplish our mission by providing a web community to collectively share our experiences, tips, inspiration, and goals.

So ... that's it in a nutshell.  Will you be joining the revolution of moms that go by the endearing label of Enduramom? Are you already juggling triathlon training, family life, carpool duty... and rocking it?

Enduramoms™ are unique and deserve recognition!

Motivation! - Courtesy of our elders

I'm ALWAYS inspired by the "elder" age group of competitors in endurance and Ironman events.  So... on that note... I  just stumbled across yet another amazing story in the Health Blog section of the Wall Street Journal.  This article/video interview is about a 70 year old neurosurgeon/Ironman competitor! .... and no... he's not a she ...and definitely not an enduramom, but hey... we're a diversified kind of blog and inspiration can be derived from a number of sources.  You just have to know where to look...and of course realize it when it crosses your path.

Quote of the day

It's Tuesday, don't we all need a some motivation? Here's a little (okay, major) positive quote to keep you on course this week.

"Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute, or an hour, or a day or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take it's place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever."
- Lance Armstrong
May you train strong and stay focused,
